Welcome to the site of
Rabindranath Tagore

Welcome!
This site is all about Rabindranath Tagore.
Tagore lived from 1861 to 1941 and he was an Indian Poet from Bengal. Not only was he a poet, he also was a musician, novel writer and author of plays, travelogs and child prose. He was an idealist as well who started his own school in 1901 in Santiniketan (near Bolpur) which developed into a university after twenty years of hard work.
Being a social reformer and teacher he tried to unite the East and West. As a world traveller he toured around the world during a period of thirty years.
Because of his strong feelings of solidarity towards his own countrymen he resigned his Knighthood - given to him by King George V in 1915 - an act not appreciated by everyone ...
Since many years I have translated quite a lot of Tagore's poems and other stuff. Yes, I am aware of the fact that many English poems are not Tagore's original Bengali works, but alas, I do not speak Bengali. But I have been very careful in selecting the English works, which were translated by the best known English/Bengali translators.
I hereby invite Dutch people to read my English/Dutch translated work of Tagore.
Sincerely,
Liesbeth Meyer
